Clothing trends are not the only things to follow. Culinary trends are just as fun.

The biggest food trend nationwide is bacon, according to the Associated Press. Bacon gives flavor to everything from pasta to chocolate and more traditional pairings such as eggs or French toast.

The second largest food trend, however, deals with an American classic: pot pies.

The pot pie “re-invention” has been credited to the John DeLucie, chef at Waverly Inn in New York, who concocted the menu option for his high-profile clientele. It wasn’t long before Mick Jagger was pictured surrounded by models and a miniature bubbling breaded dinner in a tin cup.

An amazing part of making your own pot pie is how creative you can be, yet the results are almost fool-proof.

You can make chicken, turkey, ham, beef or seafood. Plus add your vegetables of your choosing — peas, corn, carrots, onions, potatoes — and seasonings such as dill or thyme. Because of the variety of ingredients, every pot pie tastes different.

It’s easy to find recipes online for Charleston Crab Pot Pie, Deep-Dish Chicken Pot Pie and Deep-Dish Tuna Pot Pie. And those can be made out of traditional pie crust (homemade or purchased), a puff pastry, phyllo dough, Jiffy Mix or a cornbread pie crust.
